Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing molten iron, which improves a yield of charcoal wood in the whole process and consequently further reduces a fuel consumption rate, by inhibiting a floor-mat charcoal wood from spreading into an exhaust gas discharged from an iron-bath type melting furnace when charging the charcoal wood into the furnace, in a molten iron production process which uses a movable furnace-floor type reducing furnace combined with an iron-bath type melting furnace, and supplies one part or all of the charcoal wood to be supplied to the iron-bath type melting furnace as fuel, onto the hearth of a rotary hearth furnace as the floor-mat charcoal wood. SOLUTION: This production method comprises the steps of: charging the floor-mat charcoal wood E and a pellet D containing charcoal wood therein including a powdery iron ore A and a powdery coal B, onto the hearth of the rotary hearth furnace 14 in this order to form a layer; moving the hearth in the rotary hearth furnace 14 to heat and reduce the pellet D containing the charcoal wood therein into a solid reduced iron F, and to heat and carbonize the floor-mat charcoal wood into a char G; and then, intermittently charging the solid reduced iron F and the char G into the iron-bath type melting furnace 16 without substantially cooling them.
