Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform elimination of persistence in a display device, uniformization or continuation of luminance in each display device in a multi-display system. SOLUTION: The display device 1 is provided with a CCD 114 on the rear side of discharge cell structure 13 and measures light guided from the discharge cell structure 13 to the rear side or light leaked from the discharging cell structure 13 to the rear side by the CCD 14. Then, light intensity measurement results outputted from the CCD 14 are numeralized and luminance compensation is automatically performed based on the numeralized light intensity measurement results.
