Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a redundant packet transfer apparatus capable of suppressing the increase of inner traffic. SOLUTION: The packet transfer apparatus 10 is provided with a plurality of control signal processing parts 11 for managing routing information and a plurality of data signal processing parts 13 for transferring packets in accordance with a forwarding table. One control signal processing part 11a selected from the plurality of control signal processing parts 11 is driven as an active system, the remaining control signal processing part 11b is reserved as a standby system, and when a fault is caused in the active control signal processing part 11a, the system is switched to one control signal processing part 11b selected from the reserve control signal processing parts and is driven as an active system. For the switching, the reserve control signal processing part 11b stores a static routing table, and a data signal processing part 13 stores a forwarding table for the active system, and packet transfer can be continuously performed on the basis of the forwarding table.
