Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring always preventing the floating phenomenon of the piston ring during the operating of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This piston ring comprises an outer ring having a ring lower surface tightly stuck to the lower surface of a ring groove and arranged on a peripheral side in the ring groove, an inner ring brought into contact with the back surface of the outer ring, freely moved in a piston axial direction and arranged on an inner peripheral side in the ring groove, and an annular spacer of a substantially dogleg cross section. The annular spacer has, at least in one part in a peripheral direction, a gas passage communicating a back clearance being a clearance between the back surface of the inner ring and the bottom surface of the ring groove with the inside of a cylinder, arranged to be stridden over and brought into contact with the upper surfaces of the inner and outer rings, and transmits the inertial force of the inner ring to the ring upper surface of the outer ring during the operation of the internal combustion engine.
