Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device excellent in light utilization efficiency, an optical apparatus, a display device and a stereoscopic picture display device. SOLUTION: The optical device has a rotational shaft and is equipped with a plane parallel with the rotational shaft and having translucency, and a plurality of optically anisotropic media to transmit light of a predetermined color and only in a predetermined linearly polarized light direction and reflect light other than the light of the predetermined color and only in the predetermined linearly polarized light direction are formed along in a rotating direction on the plane. The color and the linearly polarized light direction of the transmitted light through the respective optically anisotropic media are set to at least two or more types, and the color and the linearly polarized light direction of a light beam passing through the plane with rotation are switched in time order to emit the light beam.
