PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device capable of more effectively using incident light and to provide a liquid crystal device including the optical element, and a liquid crystal projector incorporating the liquid crystal device. SOLUTION: The optical element includes an optical component having a substrate, a joint face directly joined to the substrate, and an optical face different from the joint face, wherein the optical face is provided with an anti-reflection film. The optical element including the substrate and the optical component having the optical face further includes the antireflection film provided on the optical component, and the antireflection film has the joint face directly joined to the substrate. In the optical element including the optical component having a first refracting face, the optical component further includes a second refracting face corresponding to the first refracting face. The first refracting face has refracting power with a sign that is opposite to the sign of the refracting power of the second refracting face corresponding to the first refracting face.
