PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for directly inhibiting the 7α-dehydroxylation reaction by 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria, and to provide a method for producing the agent. SOLUTION: The agent for inhibiting the 7α-dehydroxylation reaction by the 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria contains a 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria-assimilable sugar as an active ingredient. The use of the 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria-assimilable sugar for inhibiting the 7α-dehydroxylation reaction is also provided. The method for producing the the agent for inhibiting the 7α-dehydroxylation reaction of the 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria involves a step for selecting a test material for inhibiting the 7α-dehydroxylation reaction of the 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria by adding the test material to the 7α-dehydroxylation bacteria.
