Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a high purity alkali carbonate, by which the alkali carbonate containing extremely low content of metal impurities can be obtained. SOLUTION: Carbon dioxide gas containing high content of metal impurities is dissolved in any of an acidic solution, a neutral solution, or an aqueous solution of an alkali hydrogen carbonate, and carbon dioxide gas which is generated from the solution and contains low content of metal impurities is obtained. Further, sodium carbonate, containing low content of metal impurities, is obtained by dissolving the obtained carbon dioxide gas into a high concentration alkali hydroxide aqueous solution, e.g. a sodium hydroxide aqueous solution.
