Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant composition which exhibits a high friction-reducing effect, while reducing the content of a molybdenum-containing organic compound. SOLUTION: This engine lubricant composition is characterized by dissolving or dispersing the following components in a lubricant base oil: (a) a nitrogen-containing ash-free dispersant; (b) a metal-containing cleaner; (c) zinc dihydrocarbyldithiophosphate or zinc dihydrocarbylphosphate; (d) a molybdenum compound containing small amounts of the following two compounds, (d1) an oxymolybdenum complex which is the reaction product of an acidic molybdenum compound with a basic nitrogen production, and (d2) oxymolybdenum dithiocarbamate sulfide and/or oxymolybdenum dithiophosphate sulfide; and (e) a polyhydric alcohol monofatty acid ester or its borate.
