SOLUTION: In the button type alkaline battery including a positive electrode envelope 1, a gel-like negative electrode 9 containing a mercuryless and lead-free zinc alloy and an alkaline electrolyte, a negative electrode envelope 10 crimped and fixed to an aperture of the positive electrode envelope 1 and serving also as a collector of the gel-like negative electrode, an insulating gasket covering the edge surface 12 of the aperture of the negative electrode envelope and placed between the outside circumference of the aperture and the inside circumference of the aperture of the positive electrode envelope, Sn and/or In are provided on the inside circumference and the edge surface 12 of the aperture of the negative electrode envelope 10, and the surface roughness Ra of the edge surface 12 of the aperture is not more than 3 μm.
