Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disconnection detecting apparatus, applied to a speed detector of a rotating body with a single phase and at a single edge, and detecting a disconnection in a wide speed range of a rotating body. SOLUTION: The disconnection detecting apparatus has a counter 41 for counting in synchronization with a frequency signal 50 and resetting a count value 13 in synchronization with a frequency signal 60, a counter 42 for counting in synchronization with the frequency signal 60 and resetting a count value 23 in synchronization with the frequency signal 50, a counter 54 for counting in synchronization with a frequency signal 57, resetting a count value 63 in synchronization with the frequency signal 50 and resetting the count value 63 in synchronization with the frequency signal 60, and a determination means 55 for determining a failure of the rotation speed detector when one of the counter values 13, 23 or the count value 63 exceed a predetermined value.
