PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain transfer agent capable of efficiently adjusting the molecular weight of a prepared polymer or a copolymer, and a polymerization method using the same. SOLUTION: The chain transfer agent comprises an n-meric methacrylate having a structure of formula I (wherein n is an integer of ≥3; and R is a ≥6C cyclic hydrocarbon group which is not substituted or substituted by a substituent chosen from the group consisting of an alkyl, an allyl, an aryl, a hydroxy, an alkoxy, a cyano, an amino, a silyl, an acid, a halo or an acyl group, provided that R is not a cyclohexyl group).
