Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backup management technology to secure the safety of data stored in a storage system while suppressing a burden for processing in the storage system. SOLUTION: The storage system 10 accepts, from a host computer 50, a request for writing data management restriction information by which restrictions on backup are prescribed, writes the data management restriction information into a VTOC (volume table of contents) expansion part obtained by expanding a storage area secured as a VTOC within a storage area in a volume, and, on the basis of the data management restriction information written into the VTOC expansion part, restricts the execution of backup.
