Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of both structure understanding and extraction of surface form of a subject to be examined to give good quality images in the image processing apparatus capable of illustration of three-dimensional image. SOLUTION: A volume rendering mode area setting part 201 and a volume rendering mode computing part 203 are used to form a three-dimensional image of the volume rendering mode in a three-dimensional image forming part 106, and an X-ray photographic mode area setting part 202 and an X-ray photographic mode computing part 204 are used to form a three-dimensional image in the X-ray photographic mode. Buffers 205 and 206 put up the computed results of the volume rendering mode computing part 203 and the X-ray photographic mode computing part 204, respectively. A synthesized three-dimensional image forming part 207 synthesizes two three-dimensional images and a synthetic ratio adjusting part 208 functions in the changes of synthetic ratio of the two three-dimensional images by a user.
