Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce luminance during black display by reducing fine discharging in initialization when driving a plasma display panel and to solve a problem of flickering caused by light emission for initialization. SOLUTION: In the driving method of a plasma display panel, one field is constructed and displayed with a plurality of sub fields each having a writing term for applying a write pulse and a maintenance term for applying a maintenance pulse to the plasma display panel including a discharging cell comprised of a plurality of display electrodes each comprised of a scan electrode and a maintenance electrode, and a plurality of data electrodes disposed to cross the display electrodes with a discharging space in between. The initializing operation is performed by allowing the plurality of display electrodes to be divided into (n) and providing an initialization term for applying an initializing pulse having an inclined portion where a voltage is smoothly elevated, to the scan electrodes in a cycle of one time for (n) fields.
