Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the translation of viral peptides and proteins from a viral nucleic acid (particularly pestivirus and HCV). SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method comprising the following steps of controlling the translation of HCV protein from hepatitis C virus (HCV): (a) providing a non-naturally occurring first nucleic acid which comprises a sequence complementary to a sense strand within the 5'UT region of HCV nucleic acid, wherein the first nucleic acid is complementary to at least one sequence selected from the group consisting of a hairpin forming region, pestivirus homology box IV region and cleavage region which forms a subgenome HCV RNA by cutting a full length HCV RNA and wherein the first nucleic acid further comprises a cholesteryl part linked to 3' terminus; and (b) bringing the HCV nucleic acid into contact with the first nucleic acid under conditions where the first nucleic acid and HCV nucleic acid are capable of hybridizing, and altering the level of translation of the HCV nucleic acid thereby.
