Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element drive circuit which drives an organic EL element with low current consumption and reduces the power consumption of an EL display when applied thereto. SOLUTION: When the organic EL element 102 emits light, a drive control circuit 12 makes drive circuits 10-1 and 10-2 generate a 1st drive current for charging the parasitic capacitor 312 of the organic EL element 102 and a 2nd drive current for maintaining the illumination, and those currents are supplied to the organic EL element 102. Then when the luminance of the organic EL element 102 is reduced, drive circuits 10-3 and 10-4 are made to generate a 3rd drive current and the 2nd drive current, which are supplied to the organic EL element 102. The 3rd drive current draws out electric charges accumulated in the parasitic capacitor 312 of the organic EL element 102 to lower a voltage applied to the organic EL element 102 to a voltage sufficient for light emission with low luminance, and then the 2nd drive current maintains the light emission.
