Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical passive optical network of a wavelength division multiplexing scheme. SOLUTION: In the passive optical network employing outgoing and incoming optical signals for two-way communication, the outgoing and incoming optical signals are in the same wavelength band and include polarized components different from each other. In such a case, since the number of lines increases in the same wavelength band even without reducing a wavelength interval, even when increasing lines for novel subscribers, for example, there are merits that installation costs are reduced and lines can be easily extended. Namely, an economical passive network can be realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
