Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy capable of obtaining high toughness by a semi-melting casting method, to provide a method for molding an aluminum alloy casting, and to provide a chassis structural member for a vehicle molded with the aluminum alloy. SOLUTION: A semi-molten metal having a composition comprising, by weight, 2.0 to 4.0% Si, and the balance substantially Al with inevitable impurities and having a solid phase ratio of 25 to 45% is rapidly cooled, so as to obtain a high toughness aluminum alloy or a high toughness aluminum alloy casting. In the method for molding an aluminum alloy casting, a semi-molten metal is charged to a vessel 1 at a temperature in the vicinity of an eutectic point to control its solid phase ratio to the objective one, the semi-molten metal and the vessel 1 are charged to an injection sleeve 3 from the split face of a casting die 2, the casting die 2 is closed, and thereafter, the vessel 1 and the semi-molten metal are pressed by a plunger 4, are packed into the cavity 5 of the casting mold 2 and are rapidly cooled at a cooling rate of ≥5°C/s.
