Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reference frequency generating apparatus for preventing mismatching in simple configuration when switching an active atomic oscillator to a standby atomic oscillator in the case of fault. SOLUTION: There are provided an active atomic oscillator for providing an oscillation output of a frequency corresponding to a resonant frequency of an atom; a standby atomic oscillator for performing an oscillation output by controlling the frequency corresponding to the resonant frequency of the atom based on a control signal; a control signal input unit for detecting a difference between the oscillation output of the active atomic oscillator and the oscillation output of the standby atomic oscillator and synchronizing the oscillation frequency of the standby atomic oscillator with the oscillation frequency of the active atomic oscillator by inputting the control signal corresponding to this difference to the standby atomic oscillator; and a switching unit for outputting the output of the active atomic oscillator as a reference frequency signal to the outside when the active atomic oscillator is normal, or outputting the output of the standby atomic oscillator as a reference frequency signal to the outside when any fault occurs in the active atomic oscillator.
