Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage system having a redundancy configuration. SOLUTION: A host computer is coupled to a bank of disk drives through a system interface, and the interface has a pair of system memory sections. Two or more directors are provided, each of which is coupled to the pair of system memory sections, and are configured to control data transfer between the host computer and the bank of disk drives as such data passes through the system memory. When the system is in a dual-write mode, one director stores therein data to be transferred between the host computer and the bank of disk drives, and sequentially transfers stored data to the pair of memory sections.
