Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elastomer or a rubber composition which is furnished with a combination of resistance to chemicals and thermoplastic processability, because a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene, that is, a fluorocarbon elastomer has a disadvantage in processability though it has high resistance to a basic compound contained in a lubricant oil and grease. SOLUTION: The processable rubber composition comprises a vulcanized fluorocarbon elastomer and a functional filler dispersed in the matrix of a thermoplastic polymer material. In the one embodiment, the matrix forms a continuous phase, and the vulcanized elastomer takes a particle in shape to form a discontinuous phase. The composition is produced by compounding a curing agent, an uncured fluorocarbon elastomer, a functional filler, and a thermoplastic material. The mixture is heated at a temperature and for a time enough to vulcanize the elastomer material, while mechanical energy is applied to blend the mixture during the heating process.
