Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passive optical subscriber network capable of tracing the cause of a fault and recovering therefrom. SOLUTION: The passive optical subscriber network comprises a plurality of subscriber terminals, each of which generates an upward optical signal and detects the downward optical signal by reflecting the channel; a central base station that outputs multiplexed downward optical signals and monitoring lights and detects the multiplexed channel signals; a remote base station that outputs demultiplexed monitoring signals to respective channels of the subscriber terminals, multiplexes the channel signals reflected from subscriber terminals, and outputs the multiplexed channel signals to the central base station; a first main optical fiber that links the central base station and the remote base station; and a plurality of second main optical fibers that link the remote base station and the respective subscriber terminals.
