Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and a signal processing method thereof by which excellent image data is obtained by performing correction for eliminating a noise component from image data without deteriorating image quality. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus having a gamma-correction processing circuit 21 on the output signal processing path of a CCD 13, an incident light path leading to the CCD 13 is kept in an open state in a state where gamma-correction processing in the gamma-correction processing circuit 21 is prohibited, first image data (CCD data; DATA1) are generated on the basis of an electric signal outputted from the CCD 13, the incident light path leading to the CCD 13 is kept in a closed state, second image data (CCD data; DATA2) are generated on the basis of an electric signal outputted from the CCD 13 and lastly, the second image data DATA2 are subtracted from the first image data DATA1, thereby making correction to eliminate a dark output component included in the first image data DATA1.
