Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for real-time transfer protocol (RTP) packet authentication in a packet data network. SOLUTION: A secure real-time transfer protocol (SRTP) provides confidentiality, message authentication and regenerating protection to an RTP traffic. Since the SRTP inspects HMAC-SHA1 message authenticator for each packet, additional overhead is produced. This problem is solved by SRTP+, which markedly shortens the overhead concerning inspection, in comparison with the SRTP. As a result, the number of pseudo packets required to devise active service jamming attack is increased. The SRTP+ offers packet authentication, but does not provide maintenability. The SRTP+ is compatible with the SRTP. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
