Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the storage capacity for collected containers without enlarging a floor space. SOLUTION: The empty container collecting apparatus compresses put-in empty containers 19 by means of a volume reducing mechanism 4 composed of a pair of rollers 5, 6 facing to each other so as to reduce the volume of the empty containers, and collects the empty containers 19 by dropping them in a collecting vessel 7. A secondary compression space 8 is provided between the volume reducing mechanism 4 and the collecting vessel 7 so as to temporarily store the compressed containers 19A discharged from the volume reducing mechanism 4, and the bottom of the secondary compression space 8 is configured so as to be opened and closed. Because the compressed containers 19A are stored in the secondary compression space 8 to a specified amount, the compressed containers 19A are furthermore compressed by means of the following compressed containers 19A discharged from the volume reducing mechanism 4. When the temporarily stored amount has reached to the specified amount, the compressed containers 19A are collected in the collecting vessel 7 by opening the bottom of the secondary compression space 8. Because the empty containers compressed once by rollers are stored in the secondary compression space, and further are compressed so as to reduce the volume, and then are collected in the collecting vessel, the volume reduction ratio of the empty containers 19 can be improved, and the storage capacity of the collecting vessel 7 can be increased.
