Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle door operating device which can positively and smoothly switch its operation of a vehicle door from mechanical opening/closing movement based on driving force of the vehicle door to manual opening/closing movement. SOLUTION: The vehicle door operating device is formed of a first detecting means 36 for detecting an operating condition of a transmission member 33a of a power transmission mechanism 33, and a second detecting means 37 for detecting an operating condition of a transmitted member 33b of the same. The vehicle door operating device also includes a control means 25 for determining a transmission condition of driving force from a driving source 31 to a moving mechanism 35 by the power transmission mechanism 33, based on a signal output from the first and second detecting means 36, 37, and controlling operation of the driving source 31 and the power transmission mechanism 33, based on a result of the determination.
