Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhibit an interface function advantageous and reasonable in cost, power consumption and the like in application of high-speed serial data communication, particularly, high-speed serial data communication according to PCI Express standard to image equipment. SOLUTION: This serial data transfer device that becomes an interface for image equipment is adapted to comprise a physical layer 2 including at least one two-way transmission path 5 and varying the number of signal lines depending on a data transfer direction. According to this, a physical layer configuration which can have only the number of signal lines regulated by the data transfer direction while ensuring the lowest control function by the two-way transfer path 5 can be obtained, and the interface function advantageous and reasonable in cost, power consumption and the like can be exhibited.
