Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new means for preventing or treating bone or cartilage diseases by elucidating the mechanism of differentiation and propagation of bone or cartilage cells mediated by a glutamic acid transmission system. SOLUTION: This method for evaluating the effectiveness as the treating agent of the bone or cartilage diseases is comprises using the effects on the glutamic acid transmission system of the bone or cartilage as indices. Concretely, the validity of a material to be tested as the treating agent of the bone or cartilage diseases is evaluated based on the effects on the expressed amount or activity of at least ≥1 glutamic acid transmission signal molecule selected from a glutamic acid transporter, glutamic acid receptor and serine transporter, or serine racemase.
