PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an editing apparatus, an editing method, a program for editing the method, and a recording medium with the program for the editing method recorded thereon with which a load on effect editing is remarkably reduced in comparison with the conventional case by applying them to a video camera having an editing function, for example. SOLUTION: The editing apparatus is provided with an effect setting means for receiving effect setting by a user operation; a preview means for generating the preview image of the effect set by the effect setting means by processing video data of frame reduction reducing the amount of video data by the frame reduction corresponding to the effect setting by the effect setting means; and an editing means for creating a file based on the result of editing in accordance with the effect setting by the effect setting means.
