PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing and drying machine improving its compact property and having superior vibration and noise reducing performances by solving problems that a heat pump device connects a compressor, a radiator, a throttle means, and a heat sink together with conduits such as a copper pipe to circulate high-pressure refrigerant, when using a vertical compressor, the position of a water tub is elevated to install the compressor thereunder or the compressor may be installed in the back of the water tub, however, the both methods lacks in the compact property of the washing and drying machine, and the gravity center is high to increase vibration and noise. SOLUTION: This washing and drying machine is provided with the water tub 3 elastically supported to the inside of a casing 1, a rotating drum 5 rotationally provided in the water tub 3 and storing clothes, and a heat pump cycle for drying the clothes. This machine adopts a lateral compressor 26 constituting the heat pump cycle and the rotating shaft of the motor and the rotating shaft of the rotating drum 5 are installed approximately in parallel or non-parallel to each other.
