Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-porous carbonaceous electrode which shows an expansion coefficient which has been reduced when the electric field is activated, and to also reduce an expansion coefficient of the electric double-layer capacitor by combining such non-porous carbonaceous electrode with a particular electrolyte. SOLUTION: The carbonaceous electrode for electric double-layer capacitor can be obtained with the method comprising the step that the carbon powder having the fine hole volume of 0.01 to 0.1 ml/g in the fine grain size of 0.8 nm or less can be obtained by baking needle coke green powder for 2 to 4 hours at 600 to 900°C under the non-active atmosphere, mixing the baked powder with alkali hydroxide powder in the amount of 1.8 to 2.2 times in the weight ratio, baking the mixed powders for 2 to 4 hours at 650 to 850°C under the non-active atmosphere, and removing and drying the alkali hydroxide through cleaning of the baked and mixed powders and the step that the carbonate powder is formed.
