Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element ultimately having characteristics of a wide-view angle and fast response speed as one of the characteristics, to provide a liquid crystal aligner that fulfills the characteristics required when it is applied to an OCB liquid crystal display element and VA display element, and a polyimide copolymer that bears functions of the liquid crystal agent. SOLUTION: The polyimide copolymer has constitutional units (A) and (B).The constitutional unit (A) is at least one constitutional unit selected from among the constitutional unit of polyamic acid, obtained by having tetra-carboxylic dianhydride represented by Formula (II) react with diamine represented by Formula (III), and the constitutional unit of polyimide, and which can impart a tilt angle of 3° to 20°, when at least one is selected between polyamic acid having the constitutional unit (A) and polyimide; and the constitutional unit (B) is at least one constitutional unit selected from among the constitutional units of polyamic acid, obtained by making tetra-carboxylic acid dianhydride represented by Formula (IV) react with the diamine represented by Formula (V), and the constitutional units of polyamic acid; and when at least one selected between the constitutional units of polyamic acid having the constitutional unit (B) and polyimide is used, a tilt angle of 80° to 90° can be imparted.
