Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable bleaching composition highly safe for human bodies and having excellent effects and to provide an external preparation for skin comprising the composition. SOLUTION: The bleaching composition is characterized by comprising a xylooligosaccharide composition which is a mixed composition of xylooligosaccharides having different degrees of polymerization of xylose and 5.0-15.0 average degree of polymerization. The xylooligosaccharide composition is preferably obtained by enzymically and/or physicochemically treating a lignocellulose material, providing a complex of the xylooligosaccharide component and a lignin component and then carrying out an acid hydrolysis treatment of the complex.
