PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce mixing of noise components in brightness measurement and read a pointer value more accurately even if a character, a numeral or the like is included in a display part including the pointer of a pointer rotary meter. SOLUTION: A device for reading the pointer value of the pointer rotary meter has a video camera 1 for photographing the display part including the pointer of the meter, a ROM 201 in which a table or the like indicating relationship between the rotation angle of the pointer and a measured value, an image memory 204 for storing the brightness data on a captured image, and a CPU 200 which measures brightness on a measurement line, in a radial direction, starting from the rotation center of the pointer to a predetermined distance at predetermined intervals, in the captured image, performs arithmetic processing for integrating the measured values over a movable range of the pointer at each predetermined unit center angle, identifies an angle position corresponding to an integrated value exceeding a threshold among acquired integrated values as the position of the pointer, and refers to the table to find a measured value displayed by the pointer at present.
