Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding wheel and a manufacturing method thereof, having a porous hard matrix having enough porosity for storing chips generated in the course of grinding and enough strength not to get out of shape. SOLUTION: In this grinding wheel 10, abrasive grains 11 are dispersed with soft grains 12 in the porous hard matrix 3. The hard matrix 13 contains silicide generated by burning synthetic reaction of silicon carbide and metal, and the soft grains 12 are graphite obtained by burning synthetic reaction of silicon carbide and metal.
