Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and an image formation method with which image formation having satisfactory resolution can be obtained. SOLUTION: A CGH system has such a function as to collimate light (emitted spherical wave) emitted from an object point 120 existing at a position of a distance L by a 1st lens 102a and to form an image of the object point at an image point 124 by a 2nd lens 102b as to the direction of an X axis and has such a function as to condense light emitted from the object point 120 at a condensing point 122 and moreover to condense the light condensed at the condensing point at an image point 124 by the 2nd lens 102b as to the direction of a y axis. An area of the 1st lens 102a where a line width becomes below the limit value of lithography is small as to the direction of an X axis.
