PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable display device for a pinball game machine, wherein the novel and humorous movement of game balls discharged onto a ball frolicking passage gives a diversified visual fun to the rolling of the game balls for making the game more amusing. SOLUTION: The variable display device 12 comprising a stage 20, on which game balls can roll, is provided with a ball frolicking passage 21 at least at one of the both sides of central portion of the stage 20 with respect to the longitudinal direction thereof in such a way as to be visible from outside. The ball frolicking passage 21 is arc-shaped in the widthwise cross section of its inner peripheral surface and open at one side edge face 21a facing the central portion of the stage 20, and is equipped with a discharge trough portion 27 for discharging the game balls in a direction inclined toward the one side edge surface 21a with respect to the width direction of the passage, so that the game balls discharged onto the ball frolicking passage 21 gradually move toward its central portion while swaying to and fro widthwise the passage.
