Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a user setting and to supply maximum performance of a video audio apparatus, in a video/audio reproduction system. SOLUTION: A flowchart of the automatic recognition method includes an information exchange acquisition step (1-A) of video audio apparatuses, exchanging functional information settable between them and acquiring the functional information settable to the other video audio apparatus being a connection destination among the functional information items of the one video audio apparatus; an information storage step (1-B) of the one video audio apparatus, storing the acquired functional information; and an information comparison step (1-D) of comparing the stored functional information with the functional information of the one video audio apparatus, and the automatic recognition method disables the settings impossible of being set to the other video audio apparatus on the basis of a result of the information comparison step or the settings incapable of being set to the other audio video apparatus are omitted from setting possible objects of the one video audio apparatus, to disable selection of the settings.
