Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently hold inspection image data with defects found therein, by carrying out defect inspection of printing images on the basis of the inspection image data acquired by reading the printing images. SOLUTION: After the defect inspection (S11) is carried out, history information with the result described therein is acquired (S12), and the presence or absence of defects is checked (S14). If no defects are detected, the inspection image data is deleted, and the fact of the deletion is recorded into the history information (S18). On the other hand, if the defect is detected, it is judged according to contents of the defect whether or not the data is to be deleted (S16). The judgment of the deletion can be carried out on the basis of a type of the defect, a generation frequency of defects of the same type, a size of the defect, a capacity of a storage region, a level of importance of the defect, and the like. A process of S18 is carried out when the deletion is to be executed. The inspection image data is stored when the deletion is not to be executed, and the fact of storage is recorded in the history information (S20). COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
