Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a stable image by suppressing fine variations in level. SOLUTION: When it is decided that an input level APL is lower than a last reference level APLla, as shown in section (d) by a reference value, a process of using the input level APL as an output level APLad and a process (Flag=1) of setting a status flag F indicating fine variation are carried out. When the status flag F is set (Flag=1), namely, the last input level APL finely varies and increases by the reference value, as shown in section (e), the value obtained by subtracting the fine variation quantity (a unit quantization step width, as the reference value in this example) from the input level APL is set as the output level APLad. Consequently, the output level APLad stays at the last output level, so that even when the inputted mean luminance level varies minutely, the output level becomes constant, thereby surely suppressing the minute variations.
