Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relay amplifier for bidirectional communication operating over a wide frequency range in a time division multiplex communication system employing the same frequency. SOLUTION: Upon detecting a signal from a first attenuation section 5, a first detecting section 9 controls a first switch section 7 to conduct and controls attenuation at a second attenuation section 6 to increase over a first predetermined attenuation. Upon detecting a signal from the second attenuation section 6, a second detecting section 10 controls a second switch section 8 to conduct and controls attenuation at the first attenuation section 5 to increase over a second predetermined attenuation.
