PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the deterioration of an image quality while extending the life of each nozzle of a recording head. SOLUTION: In the recording device which records data using a recording head with a plurality of recording elements, a calculation means which calculates a distance between defective recording elements, based on positional information corresponding to the defective recording element at every optional timing; a comparison means which compares the distance between the defective recording elements obtained by the calculation means with a preset value which is set beforehand for determining which is longer; a selection means which selects either of the defective recording elements as an objective for correction by a specified selection method, based on a combination of the defective recording elements judged as below the preset value by the comparison means; and a correction means which corrects the defective recording element selected by the selection means, are provided. The data are recorded based on correction data obtained through correction procedures by the correction means. Also, the method for controlling the recording device is provided.
