Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire the image data of a check with high resolution and to perform recognition processing of magnetic ink character (MIC) included in the acquired image data in a short time. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises an image acquiring section 11 for reading the image on a check 70 with high resolution, a data processing section 12 for storing the image data in a specific region recorded with MIC in the high resolution image data thus read out while converting into low resolution, and a section 14 performing character recognition processing by reading out the image data in the low resolution region recorded with MIC.
