Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of putting together and printing an arbitrary text and an arbitrary background image, without impairing the distinguishability of the text. SOLUTION: Four images 405 to 408, obtained by shifting a text image 404 by one dot to the right and to the left, and up and down, are ORed with the original text image 404, and then inverted in black-and-white state to obtain a mask pattern 410. A white part of the mask pattern corresponds to the outline of the text which is made thicker, so the background image and mask pattern are ANDed and the text pattern is ORed, to form a void part around the text superposed on the background image.
