PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a green coloring composition, by which a color filter having high color characteristics, especially high transmissivity, and thereby high white lightness can be formed, and to provide the color filter having high color characteristics. SOLUTION: The coloring composition for the color filter contains transparent resin, a pigment carrier consisting of a precursor of the resin or their mixture, iso-indoline pigments, such as C.I. Pigment Yellow 185, azo pigments, such as C.I Pigment Yellow 150, and phthalocyanine pigments, such as C.I. Pigment green 36 and C.I. pigment green 7. The color filter is provided with at least one red filter segment, at least one blue filter segment and at least one green filter segment and constituted so that at least one green filter segment is formed by the coloring composition.
