Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protein detection method which uses a nonradioactive label, less likely to be interfered than biotin/(strepto) avidin mutual interaction, and is capable of achieving detection sensitivity which is higher than that of a detection system which uses DIG. SOLUTION: The target substance detection method includes both a process (A) for bringing a target substance into contact and bonding reaction, with a protein labeled with a compound, having a six-membered ring expressed in Formula (1) and a process (B) for detecting the protein labeled with the compound, having the six-membered ring bonded with the target substance, through the use of an antibody to the compound, having the six-membered ring. In the Formula (1), R1and R2may be the same or different from each other, each independently indicate a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of carbon numbers 1-6, and a dotted line indicates an atomic group required for forming the six-membered ring.
