Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Peltier element drive circuit which can realize low power consumption, control of heat generation in circuit, elimination of malfunction of circuit resulting from induced electromotive force and noise and irregular power supply operation and leakage of signal, and reduction in jitter of transmitting light beam and prevention of element breakdown. SOLUTION: The Peltier element drive circuit 52 can drive a Peltier element 59 for adjusting temperature of an LD60 in accordance with the direction of drive current. This Peltier element drive circuit 52 includes a bridge circuit 40 for driving the Peltier element 59 by supplying thereto a smoothed current attained by smoothing the drive current in the first direction or the second direction, and generating an induced electromotive force on the basis of the first or second direction, a charging-discharging circuit for charging the induced electromotive force generated in the bridge circuit 40 and discharging the charged accumulated energy, and a charging-discharging control circuit for controlling the charging or discharging of the charging-discharging circuit on the basis of the operating condition of the LD60.
