Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a part which is not sealed by a sealing member among electrodes of an organic electroluminescent element as a terminal for connecting it to the power supply. SOLUTION: As for the organic EL element 1, an anode 3 as a first electrode, an organic layer 4 including a light emitting layer, and a cathode 5 as a second electrode are laminated on the substrate 2 in this order. The anode 3 has a part 32 to which the organic layer 4 is not contacted. A sealing film 6 as the sealing member is formed so as to cover peripheral end parts of the opposite side face 51 to the face contacted to the end face of the organic layer 4, the end face of the cathode 5, and the organic layer 4 of the cathode 5. Among the opposite side face 51 to the face contacted to the organic layer 4 of the cathode 5, the part not covered with the sealing film 6 is exposed to become a cathode terminal 8 as a second terminal. At the part 32 not contacted to the organic layer 4 of the anode 3, an anode terminal 9 as a first terminal is installed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
