PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedal apparatus for an automobile, which suppresses the movement of a pedal lever and a pedal pad in the inward direction of a cabin with a simple and compact structure and is excellent in safety. SOLUTION: The pedal lever 20 is divided into a first pedal lever 21 rotatably supported by a pedal supporting bracket 15 and a second pedal lever 31 on which a pedal pad 40 is provided. A spring 36 is extended over a first engaging portion 27 provided on the first pedal lever 21 and a second engaging portion 35 provided on the second pedal lever 31. In addition, a first rod 37 is arranged over the first engaging portion 27 and the second engaging portion 35 so as to engage with them. A second rod 38, the tip end 38b of which faces to a toe board 1, is connected to the first rod 37. When the toe board 1 is deformed rearward, the first rod 37 is moved via the second rod 38 so as to release the engagement of the first engaging portion 27.
